Peter Coker was the outstanding landscape artist of his generation. Having been a member of the ‘Kitchen Sink' school of painting in the 1950s, Coker turned increasingly to landscape, which preoccupied him for the rest of his life. His landscapes are often dark, strong and dramatic and characterised by free and expansive handling of paint. In 1962 he moved to Mistley in Essex and his work is in all major public collections.
