Peggy Somerville 1918-1975
Peggy, the most distinguished of a family of artists, was an infant prodigy having had three London exhibitions before she was 14. Apart from some prolonged trips to France she spent nearly all her life in Suffolk. Trained at the Royal Academy Schools she portrayed nature’s richness, mainly in a soft and subtle palette. The simplest motif was made magical and her colours sometimes moved towards abstraction.
