Originally from Suffolk, London-based artist Georgie Mason specialises gestural landscape paintings. Usually beginning to paint from a certain point of a blank white panel and working outwards, Georgie’s ideas develop as she works. Inspired by Suffolk, where she grew up, Cornwall where she often visits and memories of her own travels, particularly in Japan and Taiwan, Georgie aims to capture the feeling of a place as she remembers it. Her main focus is for the painting to evoke an atmosphere, something that comes from her enjoyment of creating the work itself.
Her work was recently shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition; she was the winner of the Harry Walker Prize at the Bath Society of Artists 110th Exhibition, a finalist in the Cheffins Art Prize, and was shortlisted for The Royal Bath and West of England Scholarship in 2015.
