Dominica Yanneghas

Born in Suffolk, Dominica Yanneghas finds inspiration in the natural world and has painted at Benton End and Wyken:

‘Filling a jug with flowers from the garden is the first part of the process for me. Once my brush and pallet are to hand what follows is a kind of sensory explosion which drives me to capture as quickly as I can the thrill and joy and complexity of all that shape, colour, contrast and rhythm. I paint quite quickly with oil and chalk dust to create a more absorbent surface. As a genre, I find flower-painting from life the most liberating and fascinating experience. There are no tight rules or lines, just flow and a yearning to express how connected I feel to my subject with my particular shorthand. It’s the frivolity of flowers which provides the spark as well as the exciting shift of inspiration throughout the seasons. I paint plein air whenever the occasion allows and divide my creative time between painting, gardening and sharing my painting techniques at my studio in Hadleigh.’
